Debbie Nargi-Brown CD 2020

2020: All original songs by Debbie Nargi-Brown*

Wild Ride

We're gonna take a deep dive
Get ready for a wild ride
It's a deep dive
Hold on to each other to survive
Whoa, Whoa,
Whoa, a roller coaster ride
Yearning, churning, crashing, burning
Our world turned upside down
Searching, learning, spinning, turning
Feet firm on the ground
Strength, courage, trust, allow
Guide our Way

I wrote this song in December 2020 when my husband was diagnosed with a rare and incurable form of cancer. Working on this album during the pandemic and cancer has been therapeutic for us both.

Let It All Go

What if we just let go to know, it will be alright
Trust and know you can let it go
I will carry you, I will carry you, you can let it go
(Layer the parts)
Ending: What if we just let go to know, it’s gonna be alright

This song reminds us that even in the most difficult of times that we are being supported, held, and carried by something much greater than ourselves.

I Was Born For This Moment

I was born for this moment
I was put on this earth for this time
I was born for this moment
I came here to shine

No one said it would be easy
No one said it would be this hard (2x)

I’m gonna let my light shine (3x)
This is the time, this is the place
Are you ready for some divine grace?
This is the time, this is the place
Are you ready for your own loving embrace?
Are you ready? Yes, I’m ready (2x)
(2nd time through substitute we for I)
Ending: I was born for this moment
We were born for this moment

In the beginning of the Pandemic, I was leading a lot of singing all over the world on Zoom. When I was a guest song leader for Karly Loveling's choir, she set aside some time for a check in and one of her singers, Finn Po, when I asked how is he doing,  replied " I was born for this moment". I just loved that answer. I knew I had to put these words into a song. His words inspired me to look at 2020 as a time of the Great Pause, Great Purpose and Great Potential. The time is NOW to create a better world for us all.

I Can Do It

I can do it, I can do it, I can do it, I can do it (2x)
Don't let your mind tell you anything different (2x)
Courage and Strength
Won't lead you astray
Just listen and trust that you do know the way (2x)
(Layer parts)
Ending: Do it! Do it! Do it!

This is a great song to sing if you are loosing faith in yourself. Sing it three times, click your heels and you will have the courage to actualize your dreams or accomplish a task! I  started to write this song when I was having trouble playing a track on Zoom with over 100 people watching and waiting for me. I starting singing the phrase "I can do it" and I did it!

Love Fiercely

I am willing to love myself fiercely, I am willing to love myself
I am willing to love myself
Over and over again
I will, I can, I do, I am, I will, I can, nothing is stopping me now
(Have fun layering the two parts)

This song was inspired by a conversation I had with a friend. We talked about the importance of taking care of ourselves and loving ourselves.

The Beauty Lives In Me

Can you find the beauty, the beauty in this life?
Can you find the beauty, in the struggle,
in the strife?

It’s in the water, it’s the trees, in the flowers, in the bees
It’s in the place that I know, in the place where I grow
The beauty lives in me
(Layer the parts)

This song came to me after doing a yoga class with Chelsea Jackson Roberts who is a Peloton yoga instructor. She talked about her grandmother who did her best to see the beauty even in the most difficult situations. Daily Peloton classes have been a lifesaver for me during 2020 & 2021.

There’s A Heaviness In My Heart

There’s a heaviness in my heart (3x)
Now that we’re apart
I’m so lonely most every day
I’m so lonely since you went away
I’m so lonely since you’ve been gone
And I know I must carry on
Chorus:
Where is the light that shines upon me
Where is the love to heal my heart
I need a place to start
I’m gonna to let it in, I’m gonna to let it in,
(ending: A place to begin)

There’s a heaviness in my Soul (3x)
Where the sadness has taken control
Oh, I miss you loving me and your your voice calling out
And I know it’s the way it’s gotta be
Oh, how I miss you loving me
And, it’s time to set you free  (chorus)

I was inspired to write this song after a conversation I had with my friend Susan Moren. Her daughter Vaidehi died in a dive boat fire along with 33 other people. She described her grief as a heaviness in her heart and that is how this song was born.

Breathe It Out

Breathe it in (3x) Breathe it out (3x) repeat
Sometimes things just fall apart
You're left with your broken heart?
Dreams are shattered
Nothing else matters
You just keep holding on
Mind is racing, anticipating
Where do we go from here
Breathe it in (3x) Breathe it out (3x) repeat
Sometimes I just want to scream and shout
When it feels like there is no way out
Dreams are shattered
Nothing else matters
You just keep holding on
Mind is racing, anticipating
Where do we go from here?
Breathe it in (3x) Breathe it out (3x) repeat
Sometimes things just fall apart
You’re left with your broken heart
Dreams are shattered
Nothing else matters
You just keep holding on
Mind is racing, anticipating
Where do we go from here?
Breathe it in ... Breathe it out...

This song came out of the heartbreak and frustration helping my husband Bill navigate the many layers of cancer. It has been a difficult journey for us because no one knows how to treat his type of cancer. Dealing with a flawed healthcare system as well as COVID has made it that much harder. Sometimes all you can do is just breathe.

Love Will See Us Through

I'm sending you my love, I'm sending you my prayers
Circle of protection surrounding you there
Love with see us through this, oh love, will see us through
(Layer parts)

I wrote this song in August of 2020 while the fires were raging in the Santa Cruz Mountains where I live. I sang it for all those who had lost their homes and to those who were danger of losing their homes. I continue to sing this song for all those who are sick, suffering and/or grieving. We have lost many people to Covid and suicide in 2020. What a difficult time it has been for most of us. May we continue to support and love one another.

In These Times

In these times, let there be singing
In these times, let there be songs
In these times, let there be singing
For the courage to carry on

In these times, let there be dancing
In these times, we shall dance
In these times, let there be dancing
For joy to fill our hearts

In these times, let there be love
In these times, may we all feel loved
In these times, let there be love
For love is so much better than fear

In these times, let there be compassion
In these times, let us be understood
In these times, let there be compassion
We all need a little help sometime

In these times, let there be praying
In these times, let us pray
In these times, let there be praying
For everyone to healthy and free

I wrote this in March of 2020, right in the beginning of the pandemic.

These Songs

Oh these songs, have a life of their own
Oh these songs, sink into your bones
Reaching out into the unknown

Oh these songs, capture a moment in time
Oh these songs, sometimes they rhyme
They can come at any old time

Sing, Sing in the open air
Sing, your song as your morning prayer
Sing, with your grateful heart
Sing, when you’re falling apart
Knowing it’s a place to start

Oh these songs, they’re like our feathered friends
Oh these songs, Soaring to places we’ve never been
Only dreaming them now and then
Oh these songs, can spread their wings
Oh these songs, can turn into many a thing
To see what life can bring

Singing and songwriting have been such a blessing and a devotional practice for me during the pandemic. It is so beautiful to see these songs take flight and be sung by so many all over the world.

Hope Is The Light Within You

Hope is the light within you, Hope is the light within (4x)
I'm praying for a miracle, praying for a miracle, to come here today
I got the light, you got the light and together we shine bright (2x)
Shine bright, Shine bright, Shine bright, Shine bright
We got to get it together, oh yeah
We got to get it together, yeah yeah (repeat)
I'm praying for a miracle, praying for a miracle, to come here today
I'm praying for a miracle, praying for a miracle, to come my way
I’m praying, I’m praying
Hope is the light within you
Hope is the light within (4x)
(Have fun and layer all the parts)

I wrote this song when the fires were burning in the Santa Cruz Mountains in CA in the summer of 2020. The fire came within a few miles of my home and many of my friends lost their homes and all their belongings. May we continue to sing in the darkness even when the light is hard to see.

Love No Matter What

Love no matter what
Your heart is big enough
There is a light that shines in you
It shines all the way through
It shines all the way through you

Through the loss and the gain, through all the joy and the pain
Let love rise with the gentle wind that lifts your Soul

Let love rise, Let love rise, Let love rise with the gentle wind that lifts your Soul

*This song was inspired by a poem by my friend Nicola Amadora. Check out her work here: https://www.nicolaamadora.com/

Together Again

Chorus:
We will all be together again
We will be all together

This won’t last forever

We will all be together again
We will be all together

It’s gonna be so much better

When we are all together again

Verse 1:
We’ll be singing together someday soon
In one big room
No need to Zoom
We’ll be singing harmonies up real close
That’s what I miss the most
Don’t you?

Bridge:
The waiting is the hardest part
Knowing that we’re apart
Be gentle with my tender heart
Oh my heart!

Chorus:
We will all be together again
We will be all together
This won’t last forever
We will all be together again
We will be all together
It’s gonna be so much better
When we are all together again

Verse 2:
We’ll be dancing together with the drum
Having so much fun
Smiling with everyone
We’ll be dancing together holding hands
Face to face
Feeling your warm embrace

Bridge:
The waiting is the hardest part
Knowing that we’re apart
Be gentle with my tender heart
Oh my heart! Oh my heart!

Ending:
We will all be together again
We will be all together
This won’t last forever
It’s gonna be so much better
When we’re together again
All together again

Oh! How I miss singing and dancing with lots of people! This song was birthed out of that longing to all be together again.
